History

HISTORY OF TUSTIN TENNIS CLUB

In 1973, a few local community residents who were avid tennis enthusiasts, intercommunicated an interest in forming a Tennis Club where there would be a structured tennis program available for local residents.

There were those who took it upon themselves to approach the city to express their desire for a local club.  After months of vexing negotiations with City of Tustin Parks & Recreation Department, the ground work was laid and the terms were agreed upon which brought into existence Tustin Tennis Club (TTC). In February 1975, TTC became incorporated as a non profit organization. By August of 1975 there were over 100 members which later on reached to a peak of around 250. In the beginning TTC accepted in large part the responsibility of maintaining the Tustin City Tennis Courts at various locations including Magnolia Tree Park, currently home ground of TTC. Later this was taken over by the city. Initially funds generated from the tournaments were donated to local charities. Today, TTC is a viable part of community life. Thanks to the founding members who gave so generously of their time to organize and formulate bylaws and Club policy, refining them along the way, present members now enjoy an established organization that time has proven effectively workable and appropriate.

The Board of Directors comprise of 5 members who are elected every year in the first or second Saturday of May. The Board then appoints 12-15 chairpersons to manage activities in different area. All positions are voluntary. Board Meetings take place on first Friday of each month. All members are invited and encouraged to attend the Board meeting. However, only the Board members with majority vote takes all decisions and decides policy matters. Year round there are events and activities which include regular play, tournaments, get-aways and picnic etc. Following is the list of presidents who helped the club with their leadership.
